Moncton is located in the Atlantic Maritime zone, it also lies in the coastal lowlands. Moncton is right along the Petitcodiac River, and they are very close to the Atlantic Ocean making the climate cooler in the summer months but warmer in the winter months compared to places more inland. The reason why the water around Moncton effects the temperature is because when water is heated in the summer it also has the ability to heat land, when the water of river or ocean is heated it will heat the land in the winter time keeping it warmer long in the winter months. In the summer most of the heat is being absorbed by the water around it so the temperature is moderate. On average it is around -5°C in the winter months and 14°C in the summer months. In Moncton they also receive a lot precipitation because of the evaporation from all the bodies of water around them.
